May 8, 2017Please join us and invited guests for a special celebration of World Press Freedom Day 2017.
In honor of the many men and women who provide vital news and information to the African people and continent, Denver’s Africa Agenda would like to invite you to take a moment to look back over the past 30 years in terms of the African movement towards freedom of expression, independent media, and civil society. We will screen the award-winning film CRY FREEDOM and then have a Q&A with some of Denver’s leading experts on African media and society.
Come for an informative and historical evening as we revisit some of the key events of the late 1980s that ignited a wave of transitions across Africa. As we look back to the civil unrest that sparked a generation of reform, we will also look to the present and future, and the promise and hope that the digital revolution has brought to Africa. Mobiles, tablets, and a digital frenzy have inspired new generations for sure, but is the African continent better off? How is Africa doing in terms of supporting freedom of expression? And, how does this relate to its ongoing development?
Wine and light appetizers will be provided.
Limited space, so please RSVP: Office@AfricaAgenda.org
