Dear Friends,

Africa Agenda is pleased to announce the fourth annual Africa Summit in Colorado on Friday, November 2, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event location is the historic Posner Center at 1031 33rd Street, Denver, CO 80205. The keynote speaker is Jovan Mays, former poet laureate for the city of Aurora.

This year’s summit will be a fun and meaningful night of great discussion. You will join journalists, political, nonprofit, and business leaders, and other specialists on Africa, choosing from more than ten in-depth table topics, to explore the challenge of African news and craft news agendas to benefit both Africans and Americans.

Drawing inspiration from the Obama Administration’s historic and highly successful 2014 U.S.-Africa Leaders’ Summit, Africa Agenda believes that African communities need to work with their counterparts around the world to foster an understanding that strengthens the foundations of a purposeful African continent.

This year–after the leaders of Ethiopia and Eritrea met in July following 22 years of rivalry between the two countries – many said it was a historic moment. When the nation of Ghana produced a stream of consistent positive developments, including appearing in the top ranks of the 2018 World Press Freedom index, many said Ghana had crossed the mark.

Yet all of the news was drowned out because U.S. President Donald Trump had denigrated ALL African nations as “s##holes.” Except for a few complaints, nothing was done to deal with the lingering falsehoods about an entire continent. At Africa Agenda we take our responsibility as advocates for the truth and nothing but the whole truth about the African continent seriously. We need to address misinformation about the African continent!

With the news media as our backdrop- this year’s summit theme -the media as a bridge -setting priorities for accurate reporting on Africa -will explore the challenge of African news and craft news agendas to benefit both Africans and Americans.

Operating on a shoestring budget, Africa Agenda does not shy away from one of the toughest challenges facing us today: how to level the playing field so a continent and its people don’t get sidelined, mistreated, and dismissed as unimportant.

We invite you to join us for an evening of friendship and real dialogue. To learn more please go to the events page where you’ll find a tentative agenda for the evening. I encourage you to purchase your tickets now as there is limited seating!  I look forward to welcoming you to the 4th Annual Africa Summit in Colorado.

Sincerely,

George Bamu
